ENGLAND Worked RAOTA 50 Certificate
The Radio Amateur Old Timers' Association seeks to keep alive the pioneer spirit and traditions of the past in today’s Amateur Radio by means of personal and radio contact, while being mindful of any special needs.
Full Membership : Open to anyone who has been actively involved in Amateur Radio for over 25 years. You do not need to have held an Amateur Radio licence for the whole of that period of time, or even to have held one at all.
Associate membership : Those who have been actively involved in Amateur Radio for a shorter period are warmly invited to apply for Associate Membership. This carries all the benefits of full membership, but without the voting rights.
A number of members have expressed an interest in a certificate awarded for working 50 members of RAOTA. A certificate is also available for higher numbers of contacts, in increments of 25 (75, 100, 125, etc).
Certificates will be issued free, on trust, to members of RAOTA on submission of a log showing Call signs, QSO Dates, Reports, and Membership numbers exchanged.
The award is available to non-members, but the log must be counter-signed by a RAOTA. member. A fee of £2 in stamps must be enclosed when submitting the log.

Background :This award was created in order to promote amateur radio in the Bristol area. The award was created many years ago but has not been promoted and Bristol has also undergone a re post coding by the Post Office.
Rules: This award is available to licensed amateurs and SWLs on the submission of satisfactory proof of having heard/ worked the required number of postal areas with in the 37 available with a BS prefix. Any mode or band may be used but no cross band or cross mode contacts are permitted.
Each station must be worked at their home QTH, mobile or portable QSO’s do not count.
Contacts for this award are valid from 1st September 2013.
There are 2 classifications for this award for HF and VHF.
HF award: applicants must work 20 different postal districts.
VHF award – applicants must work 30 different postal districts
A QSO with the Shirehampton ARC club station G4AHG (GX4AHG) may be used to represent any postal district or BS11 where the club is located.
Applications for this award may be made by any of the following methods:
1. Submission of a checklist containing the log extracts for the districts being claimed.

ENGLAND - QRP G-QRP Club Award Rules
1. Power: QRP is defined as not more than 5 Watts output CW or 10Watts PEP SSB. The station you contact for the award may use any power level. This award is issued to anyone who demonstrates that efficiency by making a QSO using QRP or QrpP and a simple wire antenna per NAQCC standards where the distance between stations divided by power in watts is greater than 1000. Contacts effective on or after January 1, 2004 0000z through the present.
2. Confirmation of contacts. The applicant must hold QSLs confirming all contacts claimed. he/she may either send these cards, together with an alphabetical list of the call signs, or send this list signed by two other licenced radio amateurs, stating that they have seen and checked the cards on the list.
3. Power Declaration. The applicant must enclose with his/her application a signed statement that when making the contact his/her power did not exceed the power limits above.
4. Fees. For each award or endorsement the UK applicants must enclose three first class stamps. As IRC's are no longer accepted in UK Post Offices we have no current way of funding DX applications.
(Note: current United Kingdom postage stamps can be purchased from mail order vendors, such as William J. Plum, 12 Glenn Road, Flemington, N.J. 08822-3322. Contact him by e-mail at plumdx@msn.com) .
5. QRP Only. The whole contact, including primary calls must be at QRP power levels as above. If the contact is established at higher powers and then completed at QRP levels it cannot count for awards.

All of the listed Awards are issued at NO COST by the sponsor. I was assured that the awards would be printed by the awards custodian, and are not digital images. (There are few custodians who provide traditional printed awards and who do not at all make a charge.)
Mercury Award
The award is for contacting or hearing members of the RNARS on or after 1st October 1960. It is issued on a points basis of 1 point per member heard or worked per band. Two points are given for RNARS special calls (i.e. GB3RN, GB2PLY etc.) and 2 points for contacts with RNARS members above 30 MHz.
The Award is issued in 3 classes:
Class I requires 20 points, the minimum for G stations
Class II requires 10 points, the minimum for EU stations.
Class III requires 5 points and is only available for stations outside Europe
Stickers are available for 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 150, 200, 250, 500, 750 & 1000. There is no fee for stickers except SAE or 1 IRC
World Wide Award

This award for contacting or hearing ANY stations (not only RNARS) in the English County of Hampshire. (Please note that the Isle of Wight does not count) on or after 1st October 1960. Each station counts 1 point with RNARS special stations counting 2 points.
The award is issued in 3 classes:
Class I - UK 50 points, EU 20 points, DX 15 points.
Class II - UK 30 points, EU 15 points, DX 10 points

Kaleidoscope Award
This award is for contacting or hearing RNARS members, using the last letter of the call sign to spell the words: “ROYAL NAVAL AMATEUR RADIO SOCIETY”. No more than one member may count for any single letter. All contacts valid on or after 1st January 1986. Example: G4JBR, G4SFO, G3ZAY, GW4MVA, G3VLL = ROYAL etc.
International Navy Award
The International Navy Award became available from 1st January 2004, therefore NO QSO MAY BE USED DATED BEFORE 2004. It is available to all Amateurs and Short Wave Listeners.
Class One: Work or Hear 10 RNARS Members, 10 MF Runde Members, 3 INORC Members and 1 MARAC Member. Plus one member from ANARS or BMARS or FNARS or YO-MARC or MFCA.
Class Two. Work or Hear 5 RNARS Members, 5 MF Runde Members and 1 INORC member. Plus one member from ANARS or BMARS or FNARS or MARAC or YO- MARC or MFCA.
Class Three. This class is for DX stations outside Europe only.
Work or Hear 3 RNARS members, 3 MF Runde Members plus one member from ANARS or BMARS or FNARS or INORC or MARAC or YO-MARC or MFCA.
Joker - A contact with a valid Museum Ship not listed above (see Historic Ships on this site) counts as a missing contact. Only one per application will count i.e. 10 x RN, 10 x MF, 3 x INORC, 1 x MARAC, 1 x Joker instead of missing Club.
RNARS Digital ( 'BITS') Award
The award is for contacting or hearing members of RNARS in any digital data mode, PSK, RTTY, MFSK, SSTV for example on any band. For a full list see http://hfradio.org.uk/html/digital_modes.html
Scoring will be 1 point for every member heard or worked per mode per band with 5 points given for every special call or NOV call such as GB3RN, GB2RN, GB2PLY or GB6COD. Different speeds within the same mode will be classed as the same mode, e.g. PSK 31 and PSK63 will count the same and RTTY Normal and Inverted are considered to be in the same mode.
Like the Mercury Award this award is issued in 3 classes:
Class I – 60 points
Class II – 40 points
Class III – 20 points.
In addition, anyone earning 100 points will be awarded a special decorative plaque.
The awards will be known as the RNARS BITS Awards.
As Wikipedia says “A bit is the basic unit of information in computing and digital communications”. The term bit is constructed from binary digit.

This award can be obtained by all OM/YL station who has an official ham licence, a SWL licence or a SWL number.
Goal: contact YL operators from 3A, C3 and France on all bands in all modes, on or after 1 June 2014. Regular contacts and special call signs are also permitted. Each QSO must contain the call sign contacted or listening station, the operators name, date, time, frequency, mode and signal report should be included in your application.
Point Values:
YL callsigns can be contacted only one time per frequency and mode.
QSO’s using the following modes receive the point value for the award:
SSB = 30 points
CW = 100 points
RTTY, PSK = 50 points.
VHF USB = 150 points.
VHF FM = 100 points
UHF FM = 100 points
UHF USB = 150 points

1. The Diploma Edouard Branly
The Edouard Branly high school radio club was built in 1990 as part of the commemorative events of the centenary of the discovery of the radio operator in 1890.
To extend this action and perpetuate the memory of this illustrious friend (Edouard Branly was born in Amiens in 1844) and his discovery at the origin of our passion, an honorary degree was created and can be obtained by any French or foreign with a valid amateur license, and by the SWLs under the same conditions.

RULES:
1 - All contacts must be made on the air.

A. For countries outside France, 3 stations of the Tarn et Garonne should be contacted or heard (SWL). The club radio station, and contacts through public demonstrations by the ARAETG will count for 2 contacts.

France Dept of Seine-Saint-Denis (DD93)
The departmental diploma of the Department of Seine-Saint-Denis, offers this award to all who can enhance the activity on our bands. The stations contacted in department 93 (or in P 93) will have to be resident in Seine-Saint-Denis.
Unless otherwise specified, contacts via terrestrial relay or Echolink are prohibited. All transmission modes are allowed (CW, FM, and DIGITAL modes).
The various contacts with our department should preferably take place from your fixed station. Activations in / mobile or / portable will be accepted, provided that they are clearly specified as “93" on your application. The contacts made during any contests are valid.
Contacts must have been made on or after the date of January 1, 1951 for all amateur radio bands licensed in Region 1, and January 1, 1982 for WARC bands.
ETHICS OF CONDUCT:
1) It is required of all applicants or stations to obtain the REF93 diploma, sportsmanship and conduct "fair play".
2) An applicant, or a station for obtaining the diploma, or the representative of this station (QSL-Manager.etc), may be disqualified in the event that reprehensible facts demonstrate a known and constant violation of the OM spirit
3) Only the Diploma Manager is entitled to make all decisions, these will be final.
CONDITIONS OF AWARD:
1. This diploma is accessible to all French or foreign stations having an official license of operator of the amateur service, as well as any listening station (SWL) under the same conditions.
2. It is requested to establish a radio link with at least 10 radio amateurs of Seine-Saint-Denis, or 8 radio amateurs of the 93 plus a station of radio-club of the department.

FRANCE Diploma of Val d'Oise (Dept. 95)
Requirements to earn this award are:
1. The award may be earned in a number of ways using modes: single-band, multi-band single-mode, multi-mode, satellite, TVA and SSTV.
2. The basic requirement for those amateur stations that live in the Department is to make contact with 10 different stations of the Department 95.
3. For radio amateurs located in other French stations , QSO with 6 different stations of the Department 95.
4. For radio amateurs located in other countries: QSO with 4 stations of the Dept 95.
To obtain the diploma, you must send the list of QSOs, certified by 2 licensed amateurs. Do not send the QSLs, just a statement.
If you wish to receive the award by e-mail, there is no charge. If you wish to receive the diploma by traditional methods, the cost to print and send a paper diploma, by mail will cost 10 Euros or 15 IRCs.

FRANCE Department Of The GERS Department
1. Goal: This diploma was developed by the radio amateurs of Gers (Dept. 32). which also shows the various kinds of combinations can be used in all bands and modes.
2. Attribution: Each licensed radio amateur applicant working on the bands allocated to amateur traffic that fulfill the conditions of obtaining and is in agreement with the regulation. SWLs are eligible to earn the Award.
3. Requirements:
A. For a French station:
On HF, 6 different stations whatever the band or the mode.
Alternatitve: VHF / UHF: 4 different stations whatever the mode.
Alternative: SHF: 2 stations regardless of the mode.
B. For a European station:
On HF: 4 different stations whatever the band or the mode.
Alternative: VHF / UHF: 3 different stations regardless the mode.
Alternative: SHF: 1 station regardless of the mode.
C. For the rest of the world:
On HF, 3 different stations whatever the band or the mode.
Alternative VHF / UHF: 2 different stations whatever the mode.
Alternative: SHF: 1 station whatever the mode.
4. Regulations:
A. Ground relay links are not allowed
B. QTH, RST and QRA locator exchanges are required for QSOs to be valid.
C. Contacts with mobile or mobile stations passing through the department are valid..
5. Application Procedure:
A. Send the requests to the diploma manager with a copy of the traffic log countersigned by licensed OM (address available on the Radio Club F5KHP website)
B. SWLs should to send a copy of the QSLs.
C. The fee for the award is a check of 10 € to the order of the ARAG to receive the diploma printed, or € 5 to receive it over the internet and print it yourself.

There are two categories under which you may choose to apply to this award.
In HF: for metropolitan stations (those from France) contact 5 QSO's with the Department 50.
Using DOM/Tom 3 QSO's with stations in Dept 50 are needed.

The diploma is managed by Nicolas F4AFE, and the requirements of obtaining are as follows:
1. HF. Contact 9 stations resident of Department 58 plus one radio club, with a "Joker" TM57 station (using a TM57M or TM57YL, or other special area code).

FRANCE Worked French YL Award
This award can be obtained by all OM/YL station who has an official ham licence, a SWL licence or a SWL number.
Goal: contact YL operators from 3A, C3 and France on all bands in all modes, on or after 1 June 2014. Regular contacts and special call signs are also permitted. Each QSO must contain the call sign contacted or listening station, the operators name, date, time, frequency, mode and signal report should be included in your application.
Point Values:
YL callsigns can be contacted only one time per frequency and mode.
QSO’s using the following modes receive the point value for the award:
SSB = 30 points
CW = 100 points
RTTY, PSK = 50 points.
VHF USB = 150 points.
VHF FM = 100 points
UHF FM = 100 points
UHF USB = 150 points
3. Points Needed:
Bronze : 300 points
Silver : 600 points
Gold : 1000 points

There are 3 awards sponsored by the Department 16 and 80. The Picardie 16 as well as the diploma of the City of Albert are managed by F5KOU. The diploma of the City of Albert is administered by F1SQH.
1. The Diploma Edouard Branly
The Edouard Branly high school radio club was built in 1990 as part of the commemorative events of the centenary of the discovery of the radio operator in 1890.
To extend this action and perpetuate the memory of this illustrious friend (Edouard Branly was born in Amiens in 1844) and his discovery at the origin of our passion, an honorary degree was created and can be obtained by any French or foreign with a valid amateur license, and by the SWLs under the same conditions.
CONDITIONS OF AWARD:
1. There are two 2 classes: deca and VHF (50mhz and above) all modes
2. Requirements: Make 5 QSOs (or listen for SWL) with the stations of department 80 are necessary. Relay contacts are not valid. A maximum of 3 contacts with the same station is allowed but on different frequencies.

4. For radio amateurs located in other countries: QSO with 4 stations of the Dept 95.
To obtain the diploma, you must send the list of QSOs, certified by 2 licensed amateurs. Do not send the QSLs, just a statement.
If you wish to receive the award by e-mail, there is no charge. If you wish to receive the diploma by traditional methods, the cost to print and send a paper diploma, by mail will cost 10 Euros or 15 IRCs.

FRANCE Department Of The GERS Department
1. Goal: This diploma was developed by the radio amateurs of Gers (Dept. 32). which also shows the various kinds of combinations can be used in all bands and modes.
2. Attribution: Each licensed radio amateur applicant working on the bands allocated to amateur traffic that fulfill the conditions of obtaining and is in agreement with the regulation. SWLs are eligible to earn the Award.
3. Requirements:
A. For a French station:
On HF, 6 different stations whatever the band or the mode.
Alternatitve: VHF / UHF: 4 different stations whatever the mode.
Alternative: SHF: 2 stations regardless of the mode.
B. For a European station:
On HF: 4 different stations whatever the band or the mode.
Alternative: VHF / UHF: 3 different stations regardless the mode.
Alternative: SHF: 1 station regardless of the mode.
C. For the rest of the world:
On HF, 3 different stations whatever the band or the mode.
Alternative VHF / UHF: 2 different stations whatever the mode.
Alternative: SHF: 1 station whatever the mode.
4. Regulations:
A. Ground relay links are not allowed
B. QTH, RST and QRA locator exchanges are required for QSOs to be valid.
C. Contacts with mobile or mobile stations passing through the department are valid..
5. Application Procedure:
A. Send the requests to the diploma manager with a copy of the traffic log countersigned by licensed OM (address available on the Radio Club F5KHP website)
B. SWLs should to send a copy of the QSLs.
C. The fee for the award is a check of 10 € to the order of the ARAG to receive the diploma printed, or € 5 to receive it over the internet and print it yourself.
