SWEDEN/NORWAY MOROKULIEN AWARD (SJ9WL and LG5LG)
ARIM is an association which maintain and run the amateur radio station in Morokulien. Arim has a management of 4 Swedish and 4 Norwegian radio amateurs, who uses a lot of their time on this work.
It is a very well known and special HAM-station in the world SJ9WL/LG5LG. The radio shack can be rented by worldwide radio amateurs, and it is very popular because of its very attractive call signs, the Norwegian LG5LG and the Swedish SJ9WL. The location of the amateur station is also unique, because this is probably the only amateur station worldwide which is operating from the borderline between two countries. The shack is made useable for handicapped people. The income from rental activities are used to maintain and to operate the HAM-station.
In 2012 it was 44 years since Norwegian and Swedish amateurs agreed to cooperate running a amateur station on the borderline at Morokulien. The name Morokulien is a compound word of the Norwegian word "moro" and the Swedish word "kul" for fun. The last ending "ien" means "in one" (the two words in one) and this became the name of the state Moro-kul-ien. Morokulien is a "ham-state" on the border between Norway and Sweden. The special callsign for the Norwegian side is LG5LG, and the special callsign for the Swedish side is SJ9WL. If you as a ham-operator are visiting Morokulien for several days you have to change call-sign LG5LG/SJ9WL every other day.
Rules for Morokulien AWARD
4 - four contacts with Morokulien.
2 - two contacts with both signatures LG5LG/SJ9WL.
The contacts must be made on different bands on different days, and contact via repeater does not count. Request for AWARD can be sent to QSL manager LA7TIA, Sverre Aarstad Myggliveien 31, N-2216 Roverud, Norway together with a copy of your log with runned contacts. The award costs NOK/SEK 50,00.

(About 10 years ago, I received a request from the Black Sea Contest Club. They (or someone) asked if I would like to be named as a Honorary Member.
I agreed with pleasure, and every year since them when their DX contest is active, I actually submitted a report.
I was having a ball running contacts to those Ukraine, Bulgarian and Romanian contesters. Even to this day, I think there might be one other HONORARY member from the USA, but maybe I'm really the lone Yankee.)

UKRAINE The Ukraine Regional Districts Award (URDA)
The Ukraine is divided into 25 Oblasts, which can be considered similar to States in the USA. Within the Oblasts is found the next breakdown which is called “administration areas” comprised of 761 different areas. You can consider these 761 areas to be the Counties of the Ukraine.
And yes, hunting these administrative areas is quite similar to hunting counties in our country.
It is moderately difficult to contact all of the areas, even though the square miles are considerably less than the number of counties. Plenty of lightly populated farming districts can be found.
How can you read Ukranian QSLs to see which areas have been confirmed in your collection?
Fortunately, this is pretty easy. Just as German and French stations have codes for their DOK (German) and Department indicators (France), the vast majority of Ukranian amateur stations will show something like this on their QSL in the address section or paired with their Grid Locator:
URDA KO29
URDA HE01
RDA UD-17
URDA HA-08
Kharkov, KH 61060 - it may even look like this one, where the area is part of a postal code, and should be read as first 2 letters plus first two letters of the post code: KH61.
The sponsor has provided suggested frequencies for QSOs with URDA:
CW - 1825, 3525, 7025, 10125, 14025, 18105, 21025, 24925, 28025
SSB - 1855, 3655, 7085, 14185, 18125, 21185, 24935, 28325
3525, 3655, 14025 ? 14185 - Basic frequencies
The Base URDA diploma is issued for QSOs with 100 administrative areas of Ukraine.
(Even though it is for 100 counties, the award shows 200.
Other diplomas are given out according to the table:
URDA-200 = 100 areas of Ukraine
URDA-200 = 200 areas of Ukraine
URDA-300 = 300 areas of Ukraine
URDA-400 = 400 areas of Ukraine
URDA-500 = 500 areas of Ukraine
URDA-600 = 600 areas of Ukraine
URDA-700 = 700 areas of Ukraine
URDA-ALL = a BOARD HONOR ROLL
For those who have contact ALL Areas, a special certificate: " HONOR ROLL URDA " is given out.
The Award can be issued for the following types of achievement. Make sure you provide this information when submitting your application:
Separate awards are available:
